Crop Screenshot - Privacy Policy
Crop Screenshot: Privacy Policy
The short version
- Crop Screenshot does not collect your personal data, and it does not send your screenshots or any other information to us or to anyone else.
- When you tap capture, the app takes a picture of your screen and keeps it in your phone's memory only. When you confirm a crop, only the cropped part is saved to your phone, in Pictures/CropScreenshots. The full screenshot is not saved.
- The app has no ads, no analytics, no crash-reporting service, and no account or login.
The rest of this page explains the details, including the things that matter most for an app that can see your screen.
Who is responsible for the app
Crop Screenshot is developed by REVAMINE TECHNOLOGIES. If you have any question about this policy, write to socialmail132@gmail.com.
What the app does with your screen
Crop Screenshot exists to take a screenshot and let you crop it before it is saved. To do this it uses Android's official screen capture feature (called MediaProjection). Here is exactly how it works:
- You are asked first. Android shows its own permission dialog before the app can capture anything. While screen capture is active, Android shows its own indicator.
- The session stays open so the button reacts instantly. After you allow it, the app keeps the screen-capture session open in the background, because that is what lets the floating button respond immediately. While the session is open, the app holds only the single most recent screen frame in your phone's memory. Older frames are discarded. The app does not save, upload, or analyse these frames.
- A screenshot is made only when you ask for it. The frame is turned into a picture when you tap the floating button, the Quick Settings tile, the home screen widget, the notification action, or the start button inside the app.
- The full screenshot stays in memory. It is shown in the crop screen and is never written to storage. It is released when you close the crop screen.
- Only your crop is saved. When you confirm a crop, that cropped image is saved to Pictures/CropScreenshots on your phone as a PNG, JPEG, or WebP file, depending on your setting.
- You can stop it any time. Turn off the floating button in the app, or use the Stop action in the app's notification. Android also ends the session on its own in some situations.
The app takes still pictures of the screen. It does not record video and does not record audio. Some apps (for example banking apps) block screenshots, and those screens appear black. The app does not try to get around this.
Because the app can capture whatever is on your screen, please be thoughtful about capturing private information such as messages, passwords, or financial details, as you would with any screenshot.
Information stored on your phone
The app keeps a small settings file on your phone, private to the app. It contains:
- your choices: image format, image quality, sound and vibration on or off, floating button on or off, its opacity, size and vertical position;
- the position of your last crop box, and whether you have already seen the drawing hint;
- simple status markers that the in-app Setup Guide uses to decide whether to show itself, for example whether a capture problem was detected, whether you dismissed a hint, and a phone-restart counter provided by Android.
This information never leaves your phone through the app. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data in Android settings.
Android backup. Android has its own backup feature. If it is turned on for your phone, Android may include this small settings file in your Google backup. That is done by Android and Google, not by this app. It does not include the screenshots in your Pictures folder, although a gallery or photo-backup app that you use yourself may back those up according to its own settings.
Technical logs. If something goes wrong, the app may write a short technical error message to Android's on-device system log. These messages do not contain your screen content and are not sent anywhere by the app.
Permissions the app asks for, and why
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Screen capture (Android's permission dialog) | To take the screenshot you ask for, as described above. |
| Display over other apps | To show the floating button and the crop screen on top of whatever app you are using. |
| Notifications | Android requires an ongoing notification while the floating button or screen capture is running. The app also uses a notification to ask you to tap to continue if Android blocks a screen from opening. Notification text is fixed text from the app and contains none of your content. |
| Foreground service | To keep the floating button and the capture session running reliably, so Android does not stop them. |
| Vibration | Optional feedback when you capture, if you leave it turned on. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older only) | To save your cropped image into the Pictures folder. Newer Android versions do not need this permission. |
The app does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, calls, text messages, or accounts. It does not browse your photo library: the in-app Saved screen only lists the screenshots the app saved itself (files whose names start with CropScreenshot_), and the only files it can delete are those, when you choose to delete them.
The Setup Guide in the app can open Android or phone-brand settings screens (for example battery, auto-start, or pop-up window settings) so that you can change them yourself. The app does not change these settings for you and does not read your choices there, other than checking whether battery restriction is turned off for the app.
What we collect and share
We do not collect personal data, and we do not share any data with third parties. In particular:
- The app's own code does not make network connections and does not send any information off your phone.
- The app contains no advertising, no analytics, and no crash-reporting tools.
- The app does not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- The app uses standard open-source software libraries to draw its screens and show images from your own phone. They run on your phone and are not used to send data anywhere.
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to look up, correct, or delete on our side. If you still want to ask us something, use the contact address above.
Your saved screenshots and who can see them
Saved crops are ordinary image files in your Pictures folder. The app does not encrypt them. They are visible to you and, like any photo on your phone, to other apps that you have allowed to access photos and media. If you share an image, you do so through the app you choose, and that app's own privacy policy applies to it.
Staying in control
- Stop screen capture: turn off the floating button in the app, or use Stop in its notification.
- Withdraw permissions: open Android Settings, then Apps, then Crop Screenshot. You can turn off "Display over other apps" and notifications there.
- Delete screenshots: use the delete option in the app's Saved screen, or delete the files from your gallery or file manager.
- Remove everything the app stores: clear the app's data or uninstall it in Android settings.
Children
Crop Screenshot is a general utility and is not designed for children. Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it does not knowingly collect data from children either.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app changes what it does with your data, for example by adding a feature that sends information off your phone, we will update this page and its date before that version is released.
